Maurício Bonatte is a PhD candidate in Civil Engineering at the University of Minho, in collaboration with the University of Strathclyde (Scotland), supported by an FCT/MIT Portugal grant. His doctoral research, “Risk Assessment of Masonry Bridges and Resilience Enhancement to Flood Events,” focuses on evaluating the vulnerability of masonry bridges and developing strategies to improve their resilience under extreme hydraulic actions. He holds a Civil Engineering degree from the State University of Feira de Santana (Brazil), including an academic exchange at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (USA), and a Master’s in Structural Analysis of Monuments and Historical Constructions awarded jointly by the University of Minho and the Czech Technical University in Prague. In addition, he participates in the teaching and research team of the NoRISK Master’s programme. Maurício has contributed to European research projects such as SAFEWAY and InfraROB, where he developed predictive maintenance models using Markov chains and Artificial Neural Networks, and continues to collaborate with international partners to enhance the safety and resilience of critical infrastructure.
